Parent Guide to e-Learning

How do students log in?

Elementary students’ parents will receive an email each morning of an e-Learning day outlining the work for the day. NBJH students will log in to their Google account to complete a Google attendance form. Click on the school initials linked below to see which platform your child will use to access the assignments and activities for different classes. As teachers share lessons and activities each day, you may see offline activities as well as online assignments.

What if my child is having technical issues during e-Learning days?

When technical issues arise, including damages and malfunctions, you can request help through the Tech Help Request Form. Technology support specialists will responding to these requests. Replacement of devices will be at the discretion of the Technology Team after examining the device.

What is a family’s responsibility for the district-provided devices?

Students are strongly encouraged to use the district-provided devices and chargers they brought home on Friday, March 13. These devices will be filtered at home in the same way they are filtered at school in accordance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). That said, active monitoring of device use by an adult is still strongly recommended. The district’s Responsible Use Expectations for Technology are linked here for your reference.

Do students need to log in at a particular time?

Students should log in, if possible, around 9:00 AM on each e-Learning day to check the assignments for the day. Because teachers are available from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM on e-Learning days, we encourage students to work on assignments during this time. However, we understand that to accommodate your family’s schedule, your child may work at other times.

What will the student learning day look like?

In general, students will have the flexibility to work on assignments at their own pace and in the order they choose. They can expect approximately one assignment per subject, per day. At the elementary level this will include math, literacy, and social studies/science, and assignments from their specials’ classes (art, music, etc).

When do assignments need to be completed/posted?

The goal is to have your child complete work between 9:00 AM -  8:00 PM. Please know that the activities and lessons do not need to be completed in one sitting. Students can share work throughout the day. In addition, NBJH students will need to submit a Google Form as check-in to their first period teacher. Elementary students will be considered “present” in terms of attendance if they submit their assignments or work toward completion of their assignments each day.

How do I contact my child’s teacher?

If you need to contact your child’s teacher, email the teacher. He or she will be available from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Please note that teachers will not have access to their voicemail. Students will be corresponding with their teachers through either SeeSaw or Google Classroom. The teacher's daily email will indicate this. During teacher work days, if you are in need of immediate assistance, please contact your building principal.

What if I would like additional work for my child?

Teachers will not be assigning additional work beyond the daily expectations. If you would like your child to complete additional learning we encourage you to use the online math programs (DreamBox or ALEKS), have your child read or journal, and when applicable, practice an instrument. Additionally, there are many available resources online for virtual museum tours, ideas for simple science experiments at home, etc.

How do parents report an absence if a child is ill and unable to complete assignments?

If your child is sick and can’t complete assignments, please follow the normal procedures by contacting the school office and your child’s teacher.

Teacher’s Role

Will teachers provide feedback daily/weekly? Will teachers grade the assignments?

Yes, teachers will be monitoring student progress and providing feedback. If a teacher will be assigning a grade, he/she will communicate this to students.

What will teachers do if a child doesn’t complete an assignment?

Each day, the goal is for students to make progress toward completing work. Just as sometimes happens at school, students may not finish all work. Teachers will adjust assignments and communicate with students and families as needed.
