The District 28 Board of Education approved the appointment of Mitch Dubinsky as the next Principal of Westmoor School at its regular Board meeting on February 24, 2026. Effective July 1, Mr. Dubinsky replaces Maria Eck, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

A dedicated educator with 25 years of experience, Mr. Dubinsky brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for fostering excellence and building relationships. A lifelong learner, he has worked in leadership roles at the school and district levels. Mr. Dubinsky is also a District 28 parent and has lived in the community for many years.

His selection followed a thorough search process, beginning with community feedback that shaped the ideal candidate profile, administrative interviews, and a parent/teacher interview team.

“The Westmoor community identified that they wanted someone who is student-centered, someone who shows warmth, humor, and interest in others, and someone who demonstrates excellent communication skills,” said Dr. Jason Pearson, Superintendent of Schools. “Mr. Dubinsky possesses all of these qualities and has a deep understanding of how to support and sustain a positive school climate and culture.”

Mr. Dubinsky comes to District 28 from Community Consolidated School District 89, where he has worked as an elementary school principal for the past 15 years. He has also worked as an Assistant Principal and Bilingual/ELL Coordinator in River Trails District 26. He started his career in education as an elementary school teacher in East Maine School District 63.

“I am thrilled to join Westmoor School as the next principal,” Mr. Dubinsky shared. “What excites me most is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families. I can’t wait to be part of the Westmoor community and join in all the traditions that make Westmoor so special!”

Mr. Dubinsky holds a master’s degree in Reading Literacy from Northern Illinois University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University. Click here watch a brief video introduction about Mr. Dubinsky.
