Northbrook School District 28 has been recognized for the 11th straight year by the NAMM Foundation as one of the Best Communities for Music Education. District 28 is one of just 31 school districts recognized in Illinois this year, out of 850 school districts across the state. 

The designation is given each year to school districts following a comprehensive application process that details the level of curricular, extracurricular, and community-wide support for music education. The award recognizes the District 28 community for its outstanding support and commitment to music education, providing music access and education to all, the NAMM Foundation states. 

"I am grateful to be a part of a team of music educators that continually strive to provide the best music education for our kids. I am also deeply grateful for the leadership and support from our administration, Dr. Pearson, and our Board of Education," said Greg Scapillato, District 28 Band Director, who submitted the application. "I am honored to serve our District 28 community, and am continually humbled by the dedication and support of our parents, and the amazing achievements of our students."

District 28's music programs engage children of all backgrounds and abilities in performing, creating, and responding through music. It inclusively fosters the joy of collaborative music-making and inspires individual growth in each learner. Appreciation and involvement in music is a lifelong experience open to all. Throughout their D28 journey, students have the opportunity to participate in band, orchestra, and choir. 

Superintendent Dr. Jason Pearson said the recognition affirms the district’s and the community's commitment to music education and its lasting impact on students. “This is an impressive accomplishment. We have an amazing team of music educators and a very supportive community. Ultimately, our students benefit from a superb experience with music in our schools.”
