Two former District 28 music students have received the first annual Joanie Gilbert Memorial Scholarship, established by the District 28 Music Parents Club.

Emma Noll (Glenbrook North High School Class of 2026) and Eva Weil (Glenbrook North High School Class of 2026) received the $1,000 scholarship award at the GBN Senior Awards ceremony in May. Both participated in the music programs in District 28 and GBN and, like Joanie, demonstrated examples of exemplary community spirit.

The scholarship honors the memory of Joanie Gilbert, who passed away in May 2026 after a brief illness. For more than 20 years was a dedicated, selfless volunteer for the District 28 music program and the greater Northbrook community. A true servant leader, Joanie’s tireless efforts behind the scenes and exceptional standards lifted the program to new heights. More than a volunteer, she was a cherished friend and confidante whose authentic heart and unwavering support enriched the lives of every student and director she touched. Her legacy continues to sparkle in every note played.
