The art of making music will be on display Feb. 20 at Northbrook Junior High School when the Wind Ensemble performs under the direction of nationally recognized conductor Ronald Polancich.

Mr. Polancich will work with the 7th- and 8th- grade band members during a clinic on the morning of the performance, sharing his years of expertise as a conductor and educator. At the evening concert, held at the junior high, Mr. Polancich will guide the audience through a snapshot of the music-making journey that the students have been on as they prepared for this concert. Parents, friends, and families will get a sneak peek into how the students refine their repertoire for performance.

The second half of the event will see the NBJH Wind Ensemble perform a repertoire by composers Robert W. Smith, John Edmondson, and Nathan Daughtrey, with Mr. Polancich as guest conductor for two of the selections.

“Having Mr. Polancich join us is a real honor! He has a special talent for bringing out the best of the performers under his baton, and I know our audience will enjoy his narration of the learning process that evening,” said Greg Scapillato, NBJH band director.

For over 40 years, Ronald H. Polancich has been conducting and teaching musicians ranging from elementary school to the professional level. Recently, he was festival guest conductor for numerous area high school band festivals and the ILMEA District 7 Junior Division Honor Band.
