Summer Enrichment FAQ

Incoming 1st through 4th grade students will attend Summer Enrichment at Westmoor School, which is located at 2500 Cherry Lane, Northbrook.

Incoming 5th through 8th grade students will attend Summer Enrichment at Northbrook Junior High (NBJH), which is located at 1475 Maple Avenue, Northbrook. 

The cost to attend summer enrichment courses is $145.00 per course. A 2-period course is $290.00. Please note, additional lab fees may be required, as noted in the individual course descriptions.  

Consistent with previous years, we are using Active Network, an online registration platform for Summer Enrichment. When the registration window opens, you will be able to access the Active Network site via a Summer Enrichment & ESY link on the main page of the Northbrook District 28 website under the I’m looking for list: Summer Programming.  

When registering your child(ren), please include the grade level(s) for the upcoming school year. For example, if your child is currently a 5th grade student, please register the child as an incoming 6th grade student. 

Registration for District 28 students opens on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 7:00 PM. Registration closes on Friday, April 14, 2023. 

After you complete the registration process and submit your payment via Active Network, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not see the email in your inbox, please check your spam folder. 

We will not be placing students on waitlists when classes are full. 

Yes, your child is allowed to take anywhere between one and four courses. Please note, if your child is taking just two or three courses, they need to be scheduled consecutively.  

Once Summer Enrichment begins, we will not be honoring any requests to change a child’s course selection and/or schedule. 

Westmoor: 

Incoming 1st through 4th grade students

Period 1: 8:45 AM to 9:40 AM

Period 2: 9:45 AM to 10:40 AM

Period 3: 10:45 AM - 11:40 AM

Period 4: 11:45 AM - 12:40 PM

Northbrook Junior High: 

Incoming 5th through 8th grade students

Period 1: 9:00 AM to 9:55 AM

Period 2: 10:00 AM to 10:55 AM

Period 3: 11:00 AM to 11:55 AM

Period 4: 12:00 PM to 12:55 PM

Students may be dropped off 10 minutes prior to their first course at both Westmoor & NBJH.

Families of students who are registered for Summer Enrichment will receive email communications via Active Network. Informational emails will be sent approximately one month prior to the start of Summer Enrichment and once a week during summer school. 

In the event you are not receiving email communications via Active Network, please check your spam folder before alerting staff via email @ summerenrichment@northbrook28.net. 

If the weather permits, your child may be going outside, so it is helpful to apply sunscreen at home before arriving. Further, your child should be dressed comfortably and ready to participate in class. For example, if your child is registered for an athletic course, they should be equipped with the proper clothing and shoes. 

All students are encouraged to bring a water bottle each day. Consistent with previous years, students will not be allowed to eat snacks, so please do not send one. If additional supplies are required, this will be communicated by your child’s teacher(s). 

Yes, our Summer Enrichment staff is available to help your child navigate the building. Please consider keeping a copy of your child’s schedule in his or her backpack for easy reference. 

No, there are no bus services for our traditional Summer Enrichment program.

Consistent with previous years, we are partnering with the Northbrook Park District, which offers a Summer Enrichment extension camp called Beyond the Bell. The after-care opportunity is for students, ages 6-12 and will take place at Northbrook Junior High School. The Park District provides bus transportation for students that attend our Summer Enrichment program at Westmoor Elementary School after 3rd & 4th periods. If you register for the Beyond the Bell camp, please alert the Park District staff during registration that your child is also registered for the District 28 Summer School program.

If your child is absent due to illness or other circumstances, please email staff @ summerenrichment@northbrook28.net. In the email, you should include your child’s first & last name, the summer enrichment location, and the reason for the absence. 

In the event your child will be absent for an extended period of time, please email the staff in advance.
