This fun and engaging class is where students will learn babysitting, leadership, and basic first-aid skills! They will explore the unique needs and characteristics of infants, toddlers, and older children through interactive videos, fun activities, lively discussions, and role-playing. Plus, they will receive a babysitting book and create their own personalized tote bag to take home. Students will discover creative crafts, games, and activities to enhance their babysitting adventures or when assisting as a mother's helper. This is an opportunity not to be missed to gain valuable skills in a fun and supportive environment! 

This hands-on workshop is designed to introduce students to the creative world of sewing and crochet. Whether you're a beginner or want to refine your skills, this class will foster creativity where students will learn how to sew, hand stitch, crochet basic patterns, and create personalized items. We will cover both crafting techniques and projects, allowing students to complete beautiful, handmade items by the end of the session. 

Are you ready to bring your wildest ideas to life as cinematic masterpieces? In The Digital Storytelling Lab, we’re moving beyond the notebook and onto the screen. This course is designed for the next generation of creators and filmmakers who want to master the art of the "digital hook." Students will build new worlds to share their ideas through brainstorming, creating storyboards, and then designing digital storytelling. The process will culminate with students sharing their finished products on Canva. 

This course is a great platform to promote teamwork, strategic thinking, social interaction, and friendly competition with an opportunity to learn and participate in fun games. Students will explore various board & card games from the classics like Monopoly, Life, & Uno and a few modern games as well. Students will work individually and together toward a common goal, respecting the rules, collaborating, and exhibiting sportsmanship in both victory and defeat. 

CALLING ALL ADVENTURERS: Step into a world of imagination and fantasy in this interactive, game-based storytelling experience. Students will learn the fundamentals of Dungeons & Dragons while collaborating to create characters, solve problems, and embark on epic quests together. 

Through guided gameplay, participants will develop teamwork and communication skills, practice creative problem-solving, and strengthen critical thinking. Players will also engage with the math behind the game, using dice rolls, probability, and strategy to navigate challenges. Whether negotiating with a dragon or exploring a mysterious dungeon, students will build confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills in an exciting, story-driven environment.

This is a TWO-PERIOD Course!

Students will have fun playing the game of golf with a focus on fundamentals, rules, and etiquette. They will learn skills and golf games with on-course play at Anetsberger Golf Course. There is a lab fee for the tee times for course play at the course. Students are required to have their own set of clubs and golf balls. This class is a two-hour class that runs consecutively during Periods 1 & 2. Golf Clubs can be stored at NBJH. 

This course is designed to teach students how to prepare primarily no-bake snacks and treats, along with other simple recipes that are easy to make. Although most recipes require little to no heat, select recipes will involve brief oven use or minimal heat sources. During this course, students will have the opportunity to learn about oven use and basic kitchen measurements. Some recipes will require overnight refrigeration or freezing. Students will receive all recipes from the course at the end of the session to create their own recipe book. Students will be allowed to eat their snacks in our classroom only. Students should still bring a container from home in case there is not enough time to eat their snack or if they prefer to bring it home to eat later. Snacks may not be eaten in any other classrooms or areas of the school.

This volleyball camp is a dynamic and engaging program designed for players of all skill levels, appropriate for beginners, focusing on developing technical skills, game strategies, and teamwork. Each day includes a mix of drills, scrimmages, and instruction, aimed at building volleyball skills and confidence on the court. The camp culminates in a friendly tournament, allowing participants to showcase their newly honed skills in a competitive but supportive environment. Players are encouraged to bring knee pads, a water bottle, and comfortable shoes. 

Maximum: 22 Students

Students will learn the basic safety protocols and usage for hand tools including a coping saw, file, sanding block, and a cordless drill. Some small machines may be used, such as the scroll saw, spindle sander, Dremel engraver, and drill press. All activities will be demonstrated and supervised by the woodworking teacher at NBJH. Students will choose a project from a beginner’s list (can lamp, small cutting board, name block or tombstone clock), and other projects will be available if time permits.

Students explore how actors build believable and interesting characters using voice, body, emotion, and imagination. Through theater games, short scenes, and improvisation, students learn how choices like posture, facial expression, and motivation bring characters to life. The class encourages creativity, confidence, and risk-taking in a supportive environment. 

This flag football camp is designed for players of all skill levels, including beginners, and focuses on building fundamental skills such as passing, catching, route running, defensive positioning, and flag pulling. Players will learn basic game strategies, teamwork, and sportsmanship through daily drills, instruction, and scrimmages where players can showcase their skills in a fun and supportive environment. Participants should wear athletic shoes and comfortable workout clothing, and bring a water bottle.

Calling all crafty minds! Students will explore their creativity using a wide variety of materials. They’ll transform everyday items and recyclable materials into unique and awesome art projects that they’ll get to take home and proudly display!

Are you looking to refine your painting and drawing skills? Or just starting your creative journey? This class welcomes artists of all levels, providing a supportive environment to explore drawing and painting techniques and styles. Students will be guided through a variety of mediums such as charcoal, pastels, ink, watercolors, gouache, and acrylics. Expect a diverse range of projects that encourage creative problem-solving and allow you to develop your unique artistic style.

Students will review and practice the fundamentals of cursive writing, explore the rich history of the Art of Calligraphy, and learn various Calligraphy strokes and styles. They will apply these newly acquired skills to create diverse and engaging projects. Each student will receive a personal calligraphy fountain pen along with ink cartridges. Additionally, an array of colorful calligraphy markers, pens, and paper will be available for their creative use. This is a beginners Calligraphy class. 

In this imaginative and supportive workshop, students will explore the power of storytelling while building confidence in their own creative voices. Through fun, low-pressure writing prompts, character development activities, and collaborative storytelling exercises, students will experiment with crafting original stories in a welcoming environment. 

Writers will create memorable characters, build vivid settings, and explore “what if?” scenarios that spark curiosity and creativity. Opportunities to share work and reflect on the writing process will help students grow as storytellers while encouraging self-expression and imagination. This class emphasizes creativity, risk-taking, and enjoyment of the writing process!

Mixed media artists combine multiple materials or mediums together to create a single artwork. In this class we will create a range of mixed media two dimensional and three dimensional art projects. We will be exploring artistic techniques through collage, printmaking, and sculpture by using two or more mediums such as fiber, cardboard, paper mâché, found objects, and more! Students will enhance their technical skills while creating meaningful artworks. All art levels are welcome. 

Is your child interested in learning Pickleball? This course will begin with learning pickleball rules, court layout and scoring. Students will learn to serve, return and volley using forehand, backhand, and overhead shots. Students will also learn how to initiate a dink rally and have the opportunity to develop the skills needed to play this fun game. All of these skills will be used for daily game play. Pickleball racquets will be provided and students are welcome to bring their own.

Get ready to think, build, and experiment! This class focuses on fun STEM challenges where students design and test structures, create flying paper airplanes, explore color mixing, and solve problems using simple materials. Students will plan, build, test, and improve their ideas while developing creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. 

*Note: Hot glue will be used in this class. 

Students learn the fundamentals of improvisation through games, teamwork, and creativity in a high-energy, laugh-out-loud drama class. Using the famous improv rule “yes, and…,” students will practice active listening, quick thinking, and confident self-expression while building scenes together! This class encourages collaboration, imagination, and risk-taking in a supportive, judgment-free environment. Perfect for beginners and experienced performers alike. 

Students will review and practice the fundamentals of cursive writing, explore the rich history of the Art of Calligraphy, and learn various Calligraphy strokes and styles. They will apply these newly acquired skills to create diverse and engaging projects. Each student will receive a personal calligraphy fountain pen along with ink cartridges. Additionally, an array of colorful calligraphy markers, pens, and paper will be available for their creative use. This is a beginners Calligraphy class. 

Students will get their hands dirty and dig into our district vegetable garden this summer! Students will participate in planting, harvesting, and tasting vegetables. This course will include nutrition, study of plants, ecology and garden-themed crafts. Students will also learn about farmers' markets and will run an on-site farmer’s market, selling fresh produce grown from the garden. 

Get ready for a summer of math-tastic fun! Our Math Adventure Games Class turns numbers and equations into a thrilling quest where students become math detectives, problem-solving heroes, and puzzle masters. This class will require collaboration and strategic thinking, all designed to make math feel like a real-life adventure. This isn’t your ordinary classroom – it’s a place where math meets fun, and learning happens through exciting games and hands-on challenges!

Throughout the course, students will get to try their hand at a wide range of activities, including floor hockey, roll ball, pickleball, frisbee golf, kickball and more. In this class, it’s not just about winning—it’s about teamwork, sportsmanship, and having fun!
