Student Fees

About

School fees may be charged for using textbooks, consumable materials, extracurricular activities, and other items and activities. Students must also pay for the loss of or damage to schoolbooks or other school-owned materials. Below is the list of student fees for the 2026-27 school year: 

Young Explorers

  • Deposit Only: $50
  • Full Year Tuition: $4,500

Elementary Grades K-5

  • Curricular Fee: $145 (K-5)
  • Milk Fee: $15 per year; $8 per semester
  • Technology Fee for 5th Grade: $10. This covers iPad breakage/damage insurance as 5th grade students can bring home their iPads for homework.

NBJH Grades 6-8

  • Curricular Fee: $150 (6-8)
  • Calculator: $15
  • Graduation Gown: $22 (8th grade only)
  • Graduation Fee: $20 (8th grade only)
  • Grade level paperback books: $12
  • Student Planner: $10
  • Technology Fee: $10 to cover iPad breakage/damage insurance
  • Yearbook: $35 
  • Outdoor Education (6th grade): $245

Transportation

  • YE Bus Fee: $958
  • K-8 First Rider: $596; Second Rider: $463; Third Rider: $331; 4th or more: no charge
  • Late registration fee (after July 18th) $10 per rider

Fee Waivers

Fees for textbooks and other instructional materials are waived for students who meet the eligibility criteria for a fee waiver as described in this policy. In order that no student is denied educational services or academic credit due to the inability of parents/guardians to pay student fees, the Superintendent will recommend to the Board which additional fees, if any, the District will waive for students who meet the eligibility criteria for a fee waiver. 

Eligibility Criteria

A student shall be eligible for a fee waiver when the student currently lives in a household that meets the same income guidelines, with the same limits based on household size, that are used for the federal free meals program.

The Superintendent or designee shall give additional consideration where one or more of the following factors are present:

  • Illness in the family;
  • Unusual expenses such as fire, flood, storm damage, etc.;
  • Unemployment;
  • Emergency situations;
  • When one or more of the parents/guardians are involved in a work stoppage; or
  • Other circumstance which causes a family hardship.

Determination and Appeal

Within 30 calendar days after receiving a waiver request, the Superintendent or designee shall notify the parent/guardian whenever a waiver request is denied. The denial notice shall include: (1) the reason for the denial, (2) the process and timelines for making an appeal, and (3) a statement that the parent/guardian may reapply for a waiver any time during the school year if circumstances change. If the denial is appealed, the District shall follow the procedures for the resolution of appeals as provided in the Illinois State Board of Education rule on waiver of fees.
