2020 Report Cards
The annual Illinois School Report Card, traditionally released on Oct. 30 every year, was impacted by the school closures last spring due to the pandemic. The state did not conduct the Illinois Assessment of Readiness last March, which measures student achievement in Illinois Learning Standards. Only the demographic and financial data is published in the reports. The links to the interactive report cards are posted on the district website as required.
2019 Illinois School Report Card
The Illinois Report Card is an annual report compiled by the Illinois State Board of Education to show how the state, each district and school is progressing on a wide range of educational goals.
There are three different state assessments that measure academic success in English language arts and math scores:
- The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), which was taken in spring 2019 by students in grades 3-8;
- The ACCESS assessment is given to English Learning to measure growth in proficiency; and,
- The Dynamic Learning Maps assessment is taken by students with cognitive disabilities.
The state assessments attempt to measure proficiency in the Illinois Learning Standards, which are outlined by grade and category. The School Report Card uses Multiple Indicators of Success for each school designation. Please note, due to the pandemic, these state assessments were not administered in 2020.
Student proficiency and growth is measured overall and for any subgroups of more than 20 students per school. Subgroups include five major ethnic groups, economically disadvantaged students, students with disabilities and English Learners. These core academic indicators make up 75% of each school’s overall rating.
The other 25% of the school’s rating is divided between results of the state-designed “Five Essentials Survey” on school climate and culture and the school’s chronic absenteeism rate. The Five Essentials Survey is taken annually by parents, staff and students who are in fourth through eighth grade. The school’s chronic absenteeism rate is calculated by the percentage of students who miss 10 percent or more of the school year with excused or unexcused absences.
Finally, the two areas (academic achievement and school quality) are tallied for a summative designation of 1 to 4: Exemplary, Commendable, Underperforming and Lowest Performing.
All District 28 schools received Exemplary or Commendable designations.
Keep in mind that numerical data must be properly interpreted, and it is easy to draw misleading or inaccurate conclusions.
