      New Staff 2020-21

      • Wendy Allen

        4th Grade, Westmoor

        Wendy Allen joins the Remote Learning Academy for fourth-grade students at Westmoor School. She has served in the capacity of building principal and has taught second and third grade. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and received an administrator’s certificate from Loyola University Chicago.

      • Morgan Adducci

        1st Grade, Westmoor

        Morgan Adducci started her teaching career in 2019 at Emerson Elementary School in Maywood where she taught third grade. She joins District 28 as a first-grade Remote Learning Academy teacher for Westmoor School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Miami University in May 2019 and grew up in Northbrook.

      • Lis Collins

        English Learners, Meadowbrook

        Lis Collins returns to District 28 as the new English Learner teacher at Meadowbrook. She taught fourth grade at Greenbriar School for four years before teaching middle school in Wilmette for the past four years. She recently completed a master’s degree in English as a Second Language from National Louis University.

      • Katherine deLoys

        4th Grade, Meadowbrook

        Katherine deLoys completed student teaching at Sunset Ridge in Northfield last spring where she gained experience in pivoting to remote learning. She joins the Meadowbrook staff as an in-person fourth-grade teacher at Meadowbrook School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from University of Iowa and completed an education degree from National Louis University.

      • Marissa Draniczarek

        Math, NBJH

        Ms. Draniczarek has four years of experience teaching 7th and 8th-grade math at parochial and charter schools as well as at an American school in Torreon Mexico. She has also held leadership positions including grade-level team leader, department chair and district test coordinator. She earned a bachelor's degree in math education from St. Mary's University of Minnesota.

      • Samuel Fishman

        Special Education, NBJH

        Samuel Fishman joins the NBJH Student Services team after graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign this May. Mr. Fishman joins Brooke Valentine as a teacher in the Foundational Program at Northbrook Junior High. Sam has a passion for working with students who are most impacted by their disabilities and developed these skills during his teaching assignments in the Champaign area, working in junior high and high school life skills settings. His experience working as a 1:1 assistant in special education summer opportunities in the area and his extensive knowledge and training that he has received as a James Scholar in the College of Education at the University of Illinois makes him a great fit for NBJH.

      • Jamie Flood

        3rd Grade, Meadowbrook

        Jamie Flood joins Meadowbrook’s third-grade team. She comes to Northbrook after having taught pre-kindergarten and kindergarten at St. Joseph Catholic School in Libertyville for five years. She taught second grade for the past two years in Franklin Park District 84. Ms. Flood is working on completed her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University in August.

      • Jami Grauer

        Social Worker, NBJH

        Jami Grauer comes to District 28 from North Shore District 112 where she worked at two middle schools. Prior to District 112, Ms. Grauer completed a social work internship at Glenbrook North High School. She earned a master’s degree in school social work from the University of Illinois, where she also received her bachelor’s degree.

      • Spencer Herbert

        Special Education, Westmoor

        Spencer Herbert joins the student services team at Westmoor School at a special education teacher. He comes to District 28 from New Hope Academy East in Glenview. He earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from Elmhurst College.

      • Taylor Hoffman

        Speech/Language, Early Childhood

        Ms. Hoffman completed her master’s degree in speech, language and hearing at Northwestern University. Ms. Hoffman is a familiar face as she completed her student teaching in the Young Explorers program earlier this year.

      • Lauren Israel

        1st Grade, Meadowbrook

        Ms. Israel comes to Northbrook from the Chicago Jewish Day School, where she has taught kindergarten and first grade for the past five years. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Michigan and has a reading endorsement from National Louis University.

      • Paige Jespersen

        5th Grade, Meadowbrook

        Paige Jespersen joins Meadowbrook as a fifth-grade teacher. She recently completed two long-term sub positions in Lake Forest and Round Lake. Ms. Jespersen earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s degree in education from Lake Forest College. She also recently received an endorsement in English as a Second Language. 

      • Lauren Johnson

        Science, NBJH

        Lauren Johnson, who taught for two years at Glenbrook South, will join the Northbrook Junior High Science team. Ms. Johnson received her bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois Champaign and is endorsed in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. At GBS, she worked with students to develop their love of science while also providing math support. She will work on the 7th-grade team as a science teacher, Independent Science Research facilitator and collaborating with colleagues to support their implementation of technology teaching resources in the classroom.

      • Irene Koliopoulos

        Special Education, NBJH

        Irene Koliopoulos comes to Northbrook Junior High from Sunset Ridge School were she was a special education teacher last year. She began her career as a high school English teacher, and worked in that role for 14 years. She earned a master’s degree in education from National Louis University and completed her undergraduate work at Lake Forest College.

      • Carley Krasavin

        Math, NBJH

        Ms. Krasavin comes to NBJH with seven years of teaching experience at Fine Arts Academy and Magnet School in Chicago. She most recently taught in Deerfield District 109 as a math interventionist/math specialist. She earned a master’s degree in mathematics at Northeastern Illinois University.

      • Ann Martin, RN

        School Nurse, Westmoor

        Anne Martin comes to Westmoor School after working as a certified school nurse in District 21 where she has worked since 2007. She has experience in both the clinical and hospital setting. She worked at Rush - Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center as a clinical nurse coordinator and at Resurrection Hospital as a registered nurse.

      • Molly Montes

        1st Grade, Greenbriar

        Molly Montes returns to Greenbriar for a one-year substitute position in 1st grade. Ms. Montes previously taught 3rd grade at Greenbriar for four years before deciding to stay home with her two children. She has a master’s degree in education from Northwestern University.

      • Killeen Nass

        5th Grade, Meadowbrook

        Ms. Nass returns to Meadowbrook after spending the last three years teaching 3rd grade at Providence Englewood Charter School in Chicago. She was a special education and classroom assistant at Meadowbrook before taking her first teaching position at Providence. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education and psychology at Marquette University.

      • Samantha Panther

        Physical Education, Westmoor

        Samantha Panther joins Westmoor School as a P.E. teacher. She graduated this past spring from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a focus in physical education, adaptive p.e. and coaching. She worked in both elementary and high school settings during student teaching.

      • Jennifer Remias

        2nd Grade, Westmoor

        Jennifer Remias joins Westmoor as a second-grade teacher with a wealth of knowledge and experience. She taught elementary grades for five years in North Carolina before moving to the area in 2019 where she served as a long-term substitute in Wilmette and Winnetka. She earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Norfolk State University.

      • Kristin Samuels

        Instructional Coach, NBJH

        Kristin Samuels spent seven years at Walter Sundling Junior High in Palatine, including the last four as a reading specialist/instructional coach. She returned to the classroom in Texas last year after taking time off to stay home with her family. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois-Champaign and a master’s degree as a reading specialist from National Louis University.

      • Diane Stein

        Art, Meadowbrook

        Diane Stein joins the Meadowbrook team from New York, via Evanston, to be Meadowbrook’s new art teacher. Diane spent the first 10 years of her teaching career at Trevor Day School in New York City before relocating to the Chicago area and teaching this past year at Roycemore School in Evanston.  Ms. Stein completed her master’s degree in Art Education at Brooklyn College. She brings a rich background and experiences in art education to Meadowbrook.

      • Heather Sullivan

        Special Education, NBJH

        Heather Sullivan moved from special education assistant to teacher this year at Northbrook Junior High. Ms. Sullivan has been a member of the NBJH Student Services team since 2007 serving as a special education assistant. She completed a master’s degree in special education from Roosevelt University in January 2020. Her technology skills, knowledge of NBJH students and staff will support her role as a special education remote learning teacher.

      • Collin Sylvano

        4th Grade, Westmoor

        Collin Sylvano brings 10 years of experience as a 4th-grade teacher to his new position at Westmoor School. As a 4th-grade teacher in Elmwood Park, he coached and supervised numerous extracurricular activities for students and worked in various committees. He earned a master’s degree in elementary education from the University of Michigan. 

      • Tyler Tampier

        Physical Education, Meadowbrook

        Tyler Tampier has taught p.e. at the elementary and high school levels and also served as Athletic Director in Whiting, IN. He comes to District 28 from Chicago Public Schools. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Indiana and completed a master’s degree from Ball State University.

      • Clare Thomas

        6th Grade Math, NBJH

        Clare Thomas comes to Northbrook Junior High with vast teaching experience and knowledge of the instructional planning process. She taught 7th grade math for 14 years in Elmwood Park, and for the past year at Salt Creek District 48, she was a teacher and math interventionist. She earned a master’s degree of education in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University and a bachelor’s degree from DePaul University.

      • Heidi Uhl

        8th Grade Math, NBJH

        Heidi Uhl comes to Northbrook Junior High after completing her student teaching in a variety of math classes at a combined junior high and high school in Iowa. A recipient of the Iowa Scholars Award and former member of the Hawkeye Marching Band, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa this spring.

      • Matt Walz

        Adaptive P.E., Meadowbrook

        Matt Walz has nearly 20 years of experience as both a p.e. teacher and adaptive p.e. teacher. He comes to District 28 from Lyons School District 48. He has also worked in Wheeling District 21. Mr. Walz obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University.

      • Rosanne Wozney

        School Psychologist

        Rosanne Wozney joins District 28 after more than a decade working at the Northern Suburban Special Education District.  A Wisconsin native, Ms. Wozney received her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse, and then moved to Illinois to begin her work as a School Psychologist. Ms. Wozney has extensive experience in several local districts serving students with complex learning needs. She brings a wealth of knowledge about learners who are most impacted by their disabilities, and a focus on developing skills that will lead to greater independence for students in the foundational program. She will also assist with the inclusionary practice.

      • Rachel Wiegman

        English Language Arts, NBJH

        Rachel Wiegman transitions this year from an instructional assistant and a long-term substitute at NBJH to a full-time teacher in seventh grade English language arts. For the last three years, Ms. Wiegman has completed two long-term substitute assignments and was also a full-time instructional assistant at NBJH. She also has experience as a science specialist and science teaching. She received a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University.
