Vision & Hearing Screening

Each fall, vision and hearing screening for students in mandated grades is conducted.  Good eyesight and hearing are important factors affecting a child’s educational performance.  Children are not always aware that they can’t hear or see well.  

Vision

In vision screening, we check acuity, muscle balance, and hyperopia.  Color deficiency is checked in second grade and on all new students. Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye examination by an eye doctor. 

Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo this vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist has completed and signed a report form indicating that an examination has been administered within the previous 12 months.

Hearing

In hearing screening, we check the speech frequencies as well as other frequencies.  If we identify a problem, we will recheck in about 2 weeks.  Parents are notified of problems and if further evaluation with your physician is recommended.
