Class of 2020: Debby Morris

Debby Morris

Debby Morris, R.N.

NBJH School Nurse
30 years at District 28

Debby Morris has been the school nurse at Northbrook Junior High for 30 years. After working in ICU for over 10 years, she decided to focus on working in a “well-population.”
“I came to love working with staff, families and children in a school setting. I am so lucky to have worked in this district and this community all these years!”

Advice for new school nurses

Treat each student the way you would want your own child to be treated.

What she learned from school nursing

Don’t let the ‘urgent’ overtake the ‘important.’ In other words, don’t let the paperwork and to-do lists take the place of more important things, such as taking extra time to talk with a student or colleague—actions that could make a positive difference in their day.

My co-worker Jenny (Kenny) inspires me everyday at work. She is so positive and caring and a joy to work with! Plus, if anyone is nice or helpful to us in the health office— pretty sure they are going to get homemade muffins or cookies.

Retirement plans

Travel more, especially in the fall! I hear the rates are usually lower, vacation destinations are less crowded, and the weather is still nice enough.
