I Have A Question
The following are responses to questions submitted by participants in the Community Engagement Workshop on Oct. 14.
- Has health life safety funding been considered for the mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire protection and security needs of the schools? Please break down funding possibilities.
- What data is available on the current buildings - air quality, thermal comfort, solar shading, etc.? Will replacing allow us to use green cement and think about geo-thermal? Can we pursue LEED and WELL certification?
- What haven’t we already solved for some of the ‘easier’ problems at Meadowbrook and for some budgetary restrictions?
- When was Meadowbrook renovated?
- It appears that school buses are underutilized. This causes parking and congestion at Meadowbrook and the junior high. If they are not necessary, could the money saved be used elsewhere? Parking lot costs, etc.
- What are the options for funding capital improvements now and in the future? Our old school district in Virginia had what was essentially an investment endowment which was used to fund new construction along with other methods such as grants and bonds.
- List past renovations/how are they working out. Any error in renovation hindsight?
- How do you compare the cost/benefit of repair vs replacement?

Responses to Questions submitted by participants in the Community Engagement Workshop on Oct. 28
- Have we considered selling bonds to local large community-based organizations like Northbrook Court?
- Will there be community input for school design?
- Will the depletion of the reserves put District 28 at risk for program/teacher cuts?
- Please explain the logistics involved in replacing the school. Where are classes held, how would traffic flow and construction traffic be handled?
- What is the cost to taxpayers per year for each option presented tonight?
- Can mobile classrooms help?
- Can the renovations and master plan schedule be expedited so students today will benefit from the investment and improvements?
- Please explain further the referendum and tax increases. Where are these figures coming from?
- What school fees/expenses do parents pay?
- What is the evaluative review of the past school renovations? What has worked, what could’ve been done better?
