Lori Meek
3rd Grade Teacher; 20 years at Westmoor School
“Westmoor is a community in every sense of the word. The staff, students and parents work together to foster a welcoming environment where every individual is valued and their perspectives are respected. The students are excited to learn and we are supported in every way to create an environment where each child's needs are met and every student's learning styles are honored. I began at Westmoor as a Teaching Assistant. The principal was supportive when I decided to get my master’s degree. As I have continued in my learning, the district has provided numerous opportunities for learning, growth and development.”

Trina Newman
23 years as educator, 1 year at D28
“I worked for Chicago Public Schools for over 20 years. I am originally from Northbrook and attended Wescott, Maple, and Glenbrook North High School. The same nurturing environment I felt as a child feels even stronger to me now. My colleagues have made me feel supported and are extremely inclusive. Not only do I have a mentor as a gifted coordinator, but several other staff members at my school have also taken the responsibility of mentoring me as well. The district office also has mentor meetings after school and half days to focus on technology training through the Learning First program.”

Jeremy Shea
Math Interventionist, 18 years at Meadowbrook School
“My school is a great place to work because we help each other and understand that it takes a village. It is not just one person who works with a child, but a team of educators who collaborate together to make sure every child succeeds. We value each child individually and work hard as teachers to meet our students where they are. Because I work with such talented educators, I am able to hone my craft and become a better teacher.”

“The school district fosters a culture of kindness and respect which is evident in all the schools. I appreciate that there is a strong emphasis not only on academics, but also social-emotional learning.
My colleagues and I genuinely care about our students’ well-being and believe in their potential to succeed. We problem-solve together to help each individual reach their goals.”
