SHIELD At-Home Testing FAQ
-
At-home SHIELD testing beings on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Please refer to this handy FAQ for reference.
If you have additional questions, please contact Edward Brophy, Director of Human Resources and Administrative Services.
-
Is my student required to test every week?
With testing being optional, students are not required to test every week, however the supplies that are provided are for testing each week for a four week period.
-
How are test results reported?
If your child tests positive, a school staff member will notify you. You can also sign up to receive results by registering for a SHIELD account. If you have already established an account, you can access the SHIELD portal and use the same username and password as last year.
Please do not contact any school personnel to request test results.
-
Can my student bring just the tube with the QR code label affixed to it?
In order to maintain sterile samples and prevent cross contamination, all saliva samples must be placed in a plastic bag and QR code label affixed to the bag. Samples not in a plastic bag will not be accepted.
-
My student forgot to bring their sample to school, can I drop it off?
Students must bring their samples to school at their regular start time on Tuesday each week as there is a coordinated timeline for samples to be collected and delivered to the lab for processing. The school cannot accept samples brought to school after start time. Families can also use at-home testing as needed.
-
What if my SHIELD account password is not working?
Please contact SHIELD at (217) 265-6059 to reset your password or other technical assistance with your SHIELD account.
-
What do I do if my student tested positive for COVID within the last 90 days?
Students who have a positive case of COVID cannot take the SHIELD PCR test for 90 days. Weekly testing can resume after 90 days.
-
Will I be notified by the school if my student’s test result comes positive?
Yes, the school will contact you if your student tests positive. Please do not call the school for inquiries on test results. Instead, go to the SHIELD website to login and view your student’s test results.
-
What if my student wants to opt out or opt in at a later date?
Students may opt out at any time. Students can opt in on a monthly basis. A notification to opt-in or out will be shared each month via email one week before the next distribution of testing kits.
