Art at Westmoor
Hi! My name is Shelley Cohen, and I am the Art teacher here at Westmoor. I work with all the first through fifth graders once a week. My art program can include drawing, painting, textiles, printing and ceramics. We create both two and three dimensional works of art. We also study various styles and techniques of famous artists. We learn art history, appreciation and awareness. When possible, we integrate art projects into our classroom curriculum.

Artist of the Month
The first grade art classes had a glimpse into the studio of author/illustrator Eric Carle. Some of his most notable books are, “The Hungry Caterpillar”, “The Very Busy Spider”, “The Very Quiet Cricket”, and “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?”. He uses the collage technique by painting papers first with sponges, brushes, sticks, cotton squabs, and fingers. Then he cuts the papers apart into shapes and creates his illustrations.
