The final weeks are upon us and this means that we need to take steps to get our tech ready for the long summer. These instructions below will help us make a smooth transition to sunshine and days at the beach!

Desktop computers in the room
Please do not cover the computers with trash bags, you may go ahead and shut them down and unplug them. If there are any machines giving significant problems please submit a ticket so that we can take care of them over the summer.

Laptop Carts
The laptop carts need to be returned in the way they were distributed. All cords must be untangled and in their correct compartments. Inventory should be taken and machines in need of fixing should be ticketed.

The carts should be returned to the hallway in front of the tech office RM 102 by no later than Friday the 8th of June.

Wireless Update 2

NBJH staff, I would like to update you on our new wireless system here at the JH. We know that many of you have been experiencing connection and stability issues. There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes to determine the problem. As of today 5/11/07 we have narrowed down the potential problems to some faulty cabling and minor configuration issues. We are working as fast as possible to get all the issues resolved. In the meantime if you are having issues please document them and send them along via email. It would be helpful if you can include your room number, the type of problem (i.e. cant get a connection at all, or connection keeps dropping etc.) and the time(s) of the day that this is happening. This will help us further narrow down the problems.

Thanks for you time and patience.

Email address change

Effective August 1, 2007 for school year 2007-2008

In an effort to minimize the confusion of multiple usernames and logins, we as a district are moving forward with a systemwide update to our email system. This move is one step in a strategic plan to standardize our usernames using the first initial last name convention. Further down the road we will be migrating other accounts to make a unified login a reality. We look forward to providing you with the best possible support in this migration. With everyones cooperation and patience this transition should be smooth and seamless.

Email addresses will begin with your first name initial and your last name all lowercase. For example Jane Smith would be jsmith@northbrook28.net. If two staff members have the same last name & same first initial we will add the number 2 based on date hired. For example Jane Smith and John Smith will be jsmith@northbrook28.net and jsmith2@northbrook28.net

The goal is to simplify the user’s experience while offering security and reliability. The naming convention will be the same for both for e-mail and network login, which will be easier for the user. This change will address the issue of duplicate last names. The district will now have a standardized naming convention for all staff.

As you all know we are having some teething issues with the wireless connection dropping in and out and sometimes just not working for a few minutes at a time. We are in the process of gathering data and formulating a solution. We should have most if not all the issues resolved by weeks end. Thanks for your patience.
