The Greenbriar facilities improvement project is underway, and the goal of this page is to keep faculty, parents and other community members informed about our progress. We also want to make sure you are aware of the changing conditions around the school, so you may plan in advance when visiting.

Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Grant Funding Permeable Pavers in Greenbriar Parking Lot

The District received a grant from the IEPA to fund the permeable pavers, vegetation-covered "green" roof, and rain gardens that are part of the project. The goal of these features is to reduce stormwater runoff and pollution in local waterways. Please see the "Frequently Asked Questions" sheet to learn more about the grant and the environmental benefits of pavers.

Third phase of construction in progress
Crews are working on remodeling in the west wing of the school, and additional improvements are being made to the roof and parking lot, with landscaping work also scheduled. The work is scheduled for completion before the first day of the 2012-2013 school year, and students will once again have access to the play fields and playground areas. Check back soon for updates on this final phase of the project.

The new addition is open!
Students, staff, parents, and other visitors began using the new entrance on January 30, and the new, secure front office is officially open! Students and staff are moving into the new small-group instructional spaces.
Students celebrated the official opening of the new gymnasium with a special assembly February 6!

Overall Project Timeline
New Addition to Greenbriar (gymnasium and other areas):

• Construction schedule – Ground was broken for the new addition in April 2011 and work will continue through January/February 2012. This is the portion of the project that is most visible from the areas around the school.

Remodeling/interior work on existing building:

• Construction schedule
  • Part 1 – This phase ran from June 9, 2011 to August 22, 2011 for initial work on the east wing. Work concluded in time for the Teacher Institute Day and "Meet the Teacher" activities. The parking lot is now open to staff and parents.
  • Part 2 – Additional remodeling in the west wing of the building will be completed in the summer of 2012.
